What schools would you recommend I apply to?

While the particular school you attend will neither ensure nor deny you a job at Nerd Corps, it is important to select a school that offers an intensive focused curriculum that mirrors a true production environment as much as possible. The length of a program is not always indicative of the program's quality. Make sure you take the time to check out the credentials of the instructional staff, graduate placement results and also do some personal investigation of the work produced by graduates. A good 3D production artist program will include a significant amount of classical arts training along with technical training and will preferably have unlimited access to computer labs and facility resources.

Our initial focus will primarily be on your demo reel. We will be looking for strong potential or mastery in the discipline to which you are applying, be it storyboarding, design, editing, writing, 3D animation, modeling, visual effects, lighting or others.

It is important to enrol in an animation related school that focuses on traditional skills, drawing, color, sculpture, acting, cinematography as well as a strong technical back bone to work from. A sound school environment will attempt to match the work flow and pace of a working production studio. A school that can successfully mirror that environment will have a greater likelihood of preparing you for the challenges that await you as a production artist.

The understanding of how to use the equipment (the tools) is an important aspect of the process but without the proper knowledge of traditional creative principles you will struggle to excel as a digital artist.
